False Positives

An interesting observation can be real while its interpretation is mistaken. Test the source before naming a phenomenon.

Audio: expected words in ambiguous sound

Noise, overlapping speech, radio fragments, and handling can be interpreted as words. Review without suggested phrases and retain independent listener disagreement.

Photos: dust, insects, and reflections

Near-lens particles can become bright blurred shapes when illuminated. Reflections can change with camera angle. Compare ordinary test images using the same position, light, and settings.

Video: focus and compression

Low light, autofocus, motion blur, and compression may change shapes or apparent movement. Inspect original footage across adjacent frames and compare against camera behavior in control scenes.

EMF: ordinary electrical sources

Wiring, electrical devices, radio sources, meter orientation, and range can affect readings. Map the source environment and repeat measurements at consistent positions.

Temperature: airflow and measurement type

Drafts, HVAC cycles, surface properties, and sensor response can explain changes. Compare like measurements and record position, units, and timing.

Interpretation: expectations and group influence

Record personal experiences independently before discussing them. A shared interpretation is not the same as multiple independent observations.
